One of our very own staff members was recently honoured for her work. Helen Bernard Ward was recently in Rothesay for The Dr. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell Literacy awards ceremony on Sunday November 20th. Mrs Bernard Ward recieved an award for her work in Early Childhood Literacy. She was one of five groups or individuals to be recognized in the province.
Witch and Devil Abel Romeo and Lynzie MatchettThe Eel Ground School Drama Club performed their original production "Thunderstruck" at the schools gymnasium November 7th. The "Who done it" mystery was performed first in front of the student body ,followed by an evening performance for the general public which was well attended. The drama club will take a break from the stage until the New Year when they will attend improv practice followed by their next production for the New Brunswick Drama Festival to be held in Fredericton April 30th to March 2.
Lots of laughs will be heard in Eel Ground on November 10th. Eel Ground School is proud to present Hypno Harry. This funny hypnotist will be performing at the Eel Ground Band Hall on November 10th at7:30pm. Hypno Harry will have you laughing out loud or maybe you will be on stage unde rhis spell! While the students enjoyed two days off, the staff at Eel Ground School were busy taking a First Aid Training course. The staff are now trained in various aspects of First Aid including administrating C.P.R dealing with severe cuts and burns as well as broken bones. This will be beneficial to all students especially when we are travelling.
During Fire Prevention Week, our school welcomed two members of the Miramichi Fire Department.The firemen went over fire safety athe school and at home and also did a demonstration of putting on their protective gear. Gail Hanifan was the lucky winner of a t-shirt and the students watched a video and received stickers from the fireman as well.
potato A successful end to our Potato Fundraiser. All 400 bags of potatoes were sold by Thanksgiving weekend. Eel Ground School would like to thank everyone for their support and the Miramichi Leader and 99.3 The River for their help in spreading the news of our potato campaign. We hope everyone enjoys their "spuds" and thanks again for your support. Money raised will go to school activities.
The Eel Ground Mixed Soccer team played two games recently. The first year squad traveled to millerton where they were defeated 5-0. the team were down just 1-0 at the half led by strong goaltending by Ashton Ward. Coach Hawkes was please with the teams play in their first match. In their second game the team scored their first goal i a 5-1 loss to NSEE. Andrea Ward scored to become the answer to the trivia question,"Who scored the first goal in Eel Ground School's Soccer history. The squad has two more games this week.
The Eel Ground School students and staff would like to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. Our school will be closed tomorrow (Friday) and reopening Tuesday morning. We hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend with family and friends

Today marks the debut of our schools newest team. The Eel Ground School soccer team kicks off its first season in the Middle School Boys Tier 2 Soccer League at home today. They will be hosting Harkins at the ballfield at 4pm today. The team is coached by Mr. Hawkes and have been busy these last few weeks getting ready for the season. They will be competing against Blackville, NSER,Nelson,Millerton and Espenoopetitj.This will be the first of 3 home games for the Eagles and we hope to see a good crowd cheering them on.
